How to move a CA (certificate authority) to another server and survive the new directories structure

When you restoring a CA server to different new server as the Step-by-Step guide linked in here says, you probably will face the Error mentioned :

Restore of an incremental image cannot be performed before you perform restore from a full image. The directory name is invalid. 0x8007010b (WIN32/HTTP:267).

Microsoft says that you have to restore the DB to the same exact location as in the original server. Well.. it’s not always possible. To resolve this issue easily you can use this tool called “Junction” (By Mark Russinovich) and create a NTFS junction point that will provide the same path as in the old server, for example, if your CA DB was – C:\WINNT\System32\Certsrv and in your new server the DB contained under : C:\WINDOWS\System32\Certsrv you will need to create on the new server a NTFS junction point which will redirect the WINNT to WINDOWS.

have fun.
